Create your online course faster with just-in-time-learning

Just in time learning blog

That’s why embodying the philosophy of just-in-time-learning (JITL) can drastically increase your likelihood of success when it comes to creating an online course.

Just-in-time-learning is a spinoff of the Japanese management philosophy Just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing in which items are created to meet demand, not created in surplus or in advance of need.

The purpose of JIT production is to avoid the waste associated with overproduction, waiting and excess inventory.

Just-in-time-learning is a philosophy in which you only learn what you need to in order to take the next immediate action that will move you closer to your goal.

Very much like JIT, the purpose of JITL is to avoid wasted time, energy, and resources that come with trying to figure out every intricate detail before your ready to put that knowledge to use.

Far too often I see people completely miss out on opportunities because of analysis paralysis.

While you may have convinced yourself that this is diligent planning, the reality is, it’s a huge freaking waste of time and just a form of procrastination.

If you’re trying to figure out exactly what membership platform to use, how to connect your payment processor, and the hottest marketing tactics but you haven’t created your course content yet, by the time you’re actually ready to implement what you’ve learned there’s a very good chance it’s going to be completely outdated.

Technology changes at rapid fire. New platforms and systems are coming out everyday so what’s “best” right now may be old school in a few months.

The most effective workflow is to identify where you are in the course creation process and what you need to learn right now in order to implement the next step.

For example, if you haven’t outlined your course yet there is no reason to be researching how to film your videos or create worksheets. Rather, your energy and focus should be on synthesizing your intellectual property and structuring it properly.

If you have a solid outline but haven’t created the content yet – i.e. your video lessons and worksheets – then there is absolutely no reason to be spending hours upon hours researching membership platforms or payment processors.

Trust the process and know that you’ll figure it out when you get there.

If you want to create your course in a fraction of the amount of time and need some extra accountability to stay on track I’ve got you covered. This is exactly why I structured Online Courses Academy in three phases –

Phase 1: Content Creation
Phase 2: Building Your Membership Site
Phase 3: Launch Strategy

If you stick to the process not only will you create your course faster, you’ll also produce a much higher quality product.
