Episode 2: How to plan a schedule for creating your online course content

If creating an online course is on your list of goals for 2018 there’s one thing you MUST do in order to make that goal a reality…

Schedule it.

After all, “If it’s not scheduled it’s not real”.

I find that many times people drastically underestimate how long it will take to create all the content needed for a course and then end up judging themselves for “taking too long”.

OR

They never get started because the thought of the project seems so overwhelming they feel like they’ll never finish. So let’s put the mind games aside and take an objective approach to getting a plan down on paper.

In today’s show, I’ll walk you through EXACTLY what content you need to create for your online course and the most efficient workflow for creating the highest quality content in the shortest period of time.

By the time you’re finished watching you’ll have a game plan for creating your online course!

I've outlined the main points below for those who prefer to read…

When you look past the glitz and glamour of the design and aesthetics of a course, the structure is almost always the same. The content is broken into main sections called modules and within each module are your lessons. So it looks something like this… If you are creating a course with 6 modules with 4 lessons in each module, you’ll have a total of 24 lessons to complete.

The core components that make up a lesson consist of a video training and a worksheet. Here are a couple of examples of this structure in action.

THE BRIEF LAB – An online course for corporate leadership training on narrative messaging.

SCHOOL OF SENSUALITY – Online programs focused on women empowerment.

So if you have a course with 6 modules with 4 lessons in each module, you’ll have a total of 24 lessons to complete. The core components that make up a lesson consist of a video training and a worksheet.

HERE ARE THE STEPS I RECOMMEND YOU FOLLOW TO CREATE THESE TWO ASSETS.
  1. Create your worksheet
  2. Script your video lesson
  3. Create your slides for your video lesson
  4. Film your video
  5. Edit your video

So now that we know exactly what needs to be created we can create a schedule so you know exactly what needs to be done each day. If you have enough time to invest each day and want to take the most aggressive approach here is the schedule I recommend you follow.

If you followed this schedule you would have all of your content created within 6 weeks for a 6 module course.

Now like I mentioned, this is a very aggressive timeline and there’s a good chance you may need to decrease your daily workload. If so, this is totally fine! The most important part is that you set a schedule that is manageable for you and follow it.

If you do, before you know it you’ll have a completed course that may very well become your most profitable business asset.

Now get to work 🙂
